Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using Unwrapped at unwrapped.chat, including Unwrapped Quiz (together, the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not access the Service.
Unwrapped is a free tool that analyzes WhatsApp chat exports to generate shareable recap experiences showing chat statistics and insights, and personal quizzes you can play live with friends.
About Unwrapped
Unwrapped is not a company. It is a personal, non-commercial project created and maintained by a solo developer as a fun side project. There are no money-making aspirations, no investors, and no business entity behind it.
This service is provided free of charge, as-is, by an individual who wanted to create something fun for WhatsApp users. Please use it responsibly and respect the privacy of your chat participants.
Service Description
Unwrapped provides:
- Analysis of uploaded WhatsApp chat export files (.txt or .zip format)
- Generation of statistics, visualizations, and AI-powered insights
- Creation of permanent shareable URLs for your "Wrap"
- Unwrapped Quiz: AI-suggested quiz questions based on chats you upload, which you review and approve, and temporary live games that friends can join with a link
- Free access without registration or account creation
User Content & Consent
Your Responsibility
By uploading chat data to Unwrapped, you represent and warrant that:
- You are a participant in the chat you're uploading, or you have explicit consent from all participants to analyze and share the chat data
- You understand that member names and chat statistics will be visible in the generated Wrap and its shareable URL
- You have the right to share this information and doing so does not violate any applicable laws or third-party rights
- The content does not include any material that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable
License Grant
By uploading content, you grant Unwrapped a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to process, analyze, and display the aggregated statistics derived from your chat for the purpose of providing the Service. This license terminates when you request deletion of your Wrap by contacting us at the email provided below.
For Unwrapped Quiz, this license covers storing your uploads and photos temporarily, sending selected messages to our AI provider to write and check questions, and showing the questions and photos you approve to the players you invite. It ends when your Quiz data expires or is deleted.
Unwrapped Quiz
These additional terms apply when you create or play a quiz.
- Permission: Only upload chats and photos you have permission to use. By ticking the consent box, you confirm this and agree that selected messages, sender names and your focus brief are sent to OpenAI to create the quiz.
- No sensitive data: Don't upload chats or photos with sensitive details, such as health, money, intimate matters, children's private details, addresses, phone numbers or passwords.
- You approve what players see: Players will see the questions, answer choices, explanations and photos you approve. Review every question before you play, and don't create questions that embarrass, harass or expose private information about anyone.
- AI can be wrong: Questions are written by AI and can contain mistakes. Check them against what really happened.
- Players: Choose a nickname that isn't offensive and doesn't impersonate someone else.
- Temporary by design: Quiz uploads and drafts expire no later than 7 days after your last activity, and live games no later than 24 hours after they are created. Expired data can't be recovered, so keep your own copy of anything you need.
- Usage limits: The Quiz has usage limits to control costs and prevent abuse, and may be temporarily unavailable when they are reached.
Our Privacy Policy explains exactly what the Quiz stores, who can see it and when it is deleted.
Prohibited Uses
You agree NOT to use the Service to:
- Upload chats without proper consent from all participants
- Harass, bully, or humiliate chat members by sharing their data
- Upload content that contains illegal material or promotes illegal activities
- Abuse or work around usage limits (such as 10 wraps per day, or the Quiz's limits) through technical means
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or hack the Service
- Use automated systems or bots to access the Service
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its servers
- Impersonate any person or entity
- Upload content that infringes intellectual property rights
Disclaimers
"As Is" Service
The Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:
- Accuracy of statistics, AI-generated insights or quiz questions
- Continuous, uninterrupted, or error-free operation
- Fitness for any particular purpose
- Permanent availability of generated Wraps
- Availability of Quiz drafts or games after they expire
AI-Generated Content
AI-generated insights (chat personality, themes, traits) and quiz questions are for entertainment purposes only. They may not accurately reflect the actual content or sentiment of your chat and should not be relied upon for any serious analysis.
Third-Party Content
Unwrapped is not responsible for the content users upload or for any consequences arising from sharing Wrap URLs or game links. Users are solely responsible for ensuring they have appropriate consent to share chat data.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Unwrapped and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:
- Loss of data or privacy breaches resulting from use of the Service
- Damages arising from unauthorized sharing of chat data by users
- Any disputes between chat participants about shared Wraps or quizzes
- Service interruptions or data loss
- Reliance on AI-generated insights or quiz questions
Since Unwrapped is a free service, our total liability for any claims shall not exceed $0 USD.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Unwrapped, its operators, and affiliates from any claims, damages, or expenses (including attorney's fees) arising from:
- Your use of the Service
- Content you upload to the Service
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights
Service Changes & Termination
We reserve the right to:
- Modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time without notice
- Remove any Wrap, quiz or game that violates these Terms or is reported for abuse
- Block access from IP addresses that abuse the Service
- Change these Terms at any time (continued use constitutes acceptance)
Deletion requests: You may request deletion of your Wrap at any time by contacting us at the email below with your Wrap URL. For Quiz data, include the quiz title, roughly when you created it and the game link if you have one. Quiz data is also deleted automatically when it expires. We will process deletion requests promptly.
Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, code, graphics, and branding, is owned by Unwrapped and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without permission.
You retain all rights to your original chat content and photos. The generated Wrap statistics belong to you, and you may share them freely.
Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation before pursuing formal legal action.
Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your data.
